How to Take 5 Years Off Your Face

Whether you have dull, rough skin or those lines and wrinkles are getting harder to disguise, there are ways you can fight back. Even if you can’t stop Mother Nature, you can hide what she’s doing to your face!
Self magazine consulted top dermatologists and skin experts and found out three ways you can take five years off your face–without going under the knife or spending a fortune. And all of these can be done in the privacy of your own bathroom.
Problem: Dull, rough skin
Use a resurfacing serum that is made with dead-skin dissolvers, such as glucosamine (a sugar) and arginine (derived from brown rice). You have to use it daily–apply it at night after washing and moisturizing your face–and you’ll see the results in about a month. So your skin doesn’t become too sensitive, don’t scrub your face!
Problem: Fine lines or deep wrinkles
Use a topical peptide to help smooth out those fine lines and wrinkles. Choose one of the new potent serums that maximize absorption by forming an invisible covering on your skin. For deep lines, look for a cream made with hyaluronic acid. Self magazine advises you to look for the ingredients sodium hyaluronate or hyaluronate spheres that are used in products by Olay and L’Oréal. Such creams penetrate the skin and draw moisture to the upper layers, which temporarily fills in the wrinkles. Make sure you wash your face first so nothing blocks the cream’s absorption.
Problem: Age spots
Those dark spots are caused by free radicals in your body attacking healthy pigment cells. Ideally, you want to stop the free radicals and for that you need a powerful antioxidant, such as green tea. Self reports that next-generation antioxidant facial creams, such as those made with CoffeeBerry, a fruit that absorbs about 50 percent more free radicals than green tea, are in clinical trials. Until then, Self advises you to look for an antioxidant facial cream that is made with green tea. Apply it twice daily, and in the morning, top it with sunscreen so the sun doesn’t undo all your efforts!
