Automated Election using PCOS of SMARTMATICS

PCOS - Precinct Count Optical Scanner

-          This machine is capable of counting the casted votes of the voters

-          It helps the counting of the votes to be fast

The PCOS machine will be use in this coming 2010 election in the Philippines.  Since this machine is new to the Filipinos and we all know that there are lots of rural areas here in the Philippines whom the people are ignorant to this machine. Filipinos in the rural area are used to the old ways and are not capable of adjusting in the fast-paced life. I am talking about the rural areas since most of the votes that a candidate can accumulate came from them. How can they teach those people in rural areas in a shorter time since the PCOS machines have just arrived and will be distributed to all part of the Philippines for practice and mock elections. Two months from now the election will happen, how can they teach the people of the Philippines in such a short time? Will be the Filipinos in the rural areas will be oriented?

There are lots of advantages the PCOS machine can give to the Commission on Elections. I can say so because I am also a COMELEC member in our school and witnessed the struggles to be encountered during the election and also the counting. The COMELEC’s job is very hard in this kind of machine can help them. But there are also lots of disadvantages; we can say that the counting of the votes will be much easier.

Questions:

-          But what if the system will fail? Will there be a standby IT professional to help?

-          What if there will be no electric connection in the rural areas? Will there be an alternative to solve the problem?

-          What if the internet connection will fail?

-          How can they solve the “NO HUMAN INTERVENTION” on the machine? What will they do to transport the machines one place to another? Is there some techniques so that the machine will not be touched?

-          Would be the counting of the votes accurate?

-          How can the COMELEC personnel deliver the machine in those rural areas that neither a big truck can’t cross or get thru?

There are too much disadvantages in using the PCOS machine. But maybe, it will help the election to be successful. We will just wait for the result and pray that these machines can help the elections to be successful.

Im back from a very hazardous months we had

Finally I’m back with my beautiful blog which I missed so much. It’s been five (5) months since I last visited my site; it is because of our Thesis which gave us much time to focus on it. For five months I missed much party and etc. Hanging out with my friends, writing something on my blog, I also missed sleeping eight (8) hours a day since we all made only a maximum of four (4) hours a night of sleep while doing our thesis and many more hobbies I was doing before which I missed so much. Since I am an IT student who made a thesis entitled SMS and PDU integration on a browser based Sales and Inventory Management system together with my four (4) other group mates with different task given by our team leader and all of us worked for our thesis project which I, was assigned to make the automatic reply for the SMS. I was happy that we’ve finished working on our thesis and defended it successfully with a verdict of “Accepted with Minor Revision” only. Finally I can go back to my normal life and can do anything I want.

I am now waiting for the day of graduation. I wanted to graduate so that I can have my Job and work as hard as I can so that I can achieve my dreams. It’s been very hazardous months that we have that almost killed us because of taking a bath without a sleep and some work that made us tired and made us like zombies. That’s all for this day. Thank you.

Anna Paquin

Anna Paquin is the star of several major motion pictures, including her first Oscar winning performance in The Piano (1993), the role of the young Jane in the 1996 film Jane Eyre (1996), and the role of Amy Alden in the charming family film, Fly Away Home (1996). With a well-developed vocabulary and gentle sense of humor, Paquin proves herself to be the most enchanting young talent working today. Paquin’s rising stardom has often been a cause of charming media shyness, where it is obvious that she is an ordinary girl who happens to posses an extraordinary talent. She has two agents, Gail Cowan in New Zealand, and the William Morris agency in Los Angeles, but neither these nor her parents have much influence in deciding what she films. "In the end", she says, "it’s my decision". Paquin’s parents separated while she was filming Fly Away Home (1996) in Canada. On Oscar night in 1993, Anna Paquin was the surprise (and surprised) winner of the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She stood, wide-eyed and gulping for breath at the microphone for a full twenty-something-odd seconds before delivering a gracious, though rather breathless thank-you speech.

By: Serg Pageen

Anna Paquin, the young Canadian who grew up in New Zealand and whose only acting experience was as a skunk at a school play, stunned movie-goers from all over the world with her performance as Holly Hunter’s angry young daughter in the acclaimed film The Piano (1993). Soon enough, she made the transition from child-actress to teenage actress with her performance in Hurlyburly (1998) alongside Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey and Meg Ryan and in A Walk on the Moon (1999) alongside Diane Lane, Viggo Mortensen and Liev Schreiber. Paquin, who has become an expert at portraying troubled teenagers, then starred in the popular science fiction film, the X-Men (2000). The same year, 2000, she also appeared in films such as Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous (2000) and Gus Van Sant’s Finding Forrester (2000). Personal Quotes

None of the characters I’ve played are really like me. That would be boring. It wouldn’t be acting.

Everything about being a teenager and not feeling like you fit in is just magnified by being a mutant!

If I don’t do laundry today, I’m gonna have to buy new clothes tomorrow.

There are very few films or plays or anything about really happy people with perfect lives. Everyone is usually screwed up in some way and that is usually where the work comes in - figuring out how to make it believable and make it real to present someone’s problems that you don’t necessarily actually know anything about. I mean it is not challenging to be happy all the time. I don’t think I could do it!

I just do what feels right. I think the great thing about getting to do what I do is that you can try out being a different person without having to screw up your life to do it.

"I’m not very political. I’m also not American and I don’t get to vote so my feelings are not really relevant."

She is my very best idol when she plays the role of Sookie Stackhouse that has a power to read minds and for more info about Sookie Stackhouse just click this more…
